Jeffrey Dingle, 44, was sentenced to 18 months to 48 months in prison after pleading guilty on Tuesday, April 12 to three counts of aggravated assault and one count each of criminal trespassing, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct, according to the Bucks County DA's Office.
Dingle injured several deputies on April 21, 2021, and they were taken to Doylestown Hospital for treatment. One suffered a fractured orbital bone, authorities said.
The assault happened after Dingle first refused to wear a mask as he entered the Bucks County Justice Center, as required by an emergency order issued by the President Judge, prosecutors said.
Dingle placed his items on the conveyer belt of the X-ray machine and passed through the metal detector, which sounded an alert to indicate that he had something metal on him, the DA's office said.
He then grabbed his belongings and began walking away, ignoring commands from a deputy to stop and return to redo the process, they said. Deputies pursued Dingle down into the basement, where he went to the window and threw a folder behind the counter, refusing to stop.
When guards tried to arrest him, Dingle apparently punched a sergeant in the face and a deputy in the head. Dingle continued to resist and spit on one of the deputies, prosecutors added.
Dingle was also sentenced to four years of probation and ordered to pay $8,000 in restitution to cover the medical costs of the deputies.
This case was investigated by Bucks County Detective Richard Munger and was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Thomas C. Gannon.
